[for Ray - Dated to 4/01]

Things had been quiet, and Asher wasn't sure yet if that was a good or a bad thing. In that moment, as he sat at the bar of the gazebo outside the hut, he couldn't say he actually cared one way or another. The farthest thing from his mind was Hannibal King and the trouble he'd brought along with him when he showed up.

Maybe he didn't often show it or even think about it all that much, but he knew he had it pretty good on the Island. It wasn't the sort of thought he'd openly express to Danica - lest she disown him completely for thinking something so disgustingly vile - but he knew. It wasn't perfect and it wasn't home, not really, but life on the Island wasn't what it used to be nearly five years ago.

He had Danica, pain in the ass that she was, and that alone made things more bearable than they had been when he first showed up. He had Del and the twins. And, now, he had Ray.

Things could have been a lot worse. Things have been a lot worse...

And its with that thought that he thinks maybe Danica should disown him, because even he was making himself a little nauseous.

"No take-backs," Asher said, coming to a stop right in front of Ray. "You're in love with that bed. You and the bed are one. You will handcuff yourself to that bed before you let me take it from you. You words. You didn't like me any less when I was a fucking dinosaur, did you?" After he realized he wasn't going to be eaten, of course.

"Well..." Ray teased, pretending to think about it. If he was honest, Asher had been somewhat less appealing as a reptile but he was right, he hadn't liked him any less because of it.

"How 'bout I show you the grass isn't greener and we forget all about dividing the assets?" he suggested, finishing the rest of Asher's vest for him. "The bed is definitely big enough for two."

"Dividing up my assets you mean," Asher corrected. As far as he could recall, none of Ray possession had made it into any of these sorts of conversations. Not this one, and not ever.

"Well, shit, you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain in this arrangement," Asher said, as if it had finally all dawned, fingers working on the buttons of Ray's own shirt. "But, fine, show me," he murmured, pressing his lips against Ray's and nipping gently.

"Uh huh," Ray agreed around the kiss, intending to gain exactly everything like Asher had said.

"I do like your assets," he added, brazenly slipping a hand southwards and picking one out in particular. "I'm a fan," he breathed, before deepening the kiss and rubbing the heel of his palm a little harder.

"Flattery will get you nowhere," Asher hummed against Ray's lips, his teeth clamping down harder in turn with the added pressure he felt below.

With Ray's shirt and undone, he pushed the suspenders off of his shoulders and pulled the shirt tails free of his pants. Asher slid his hands beneath the fabric, finally getting a feel of the warm skin beneath.

Any aloofness Ray may have been trying to maintain disappeared when he let out an involuntary groan at the back of his throat. Asher's teeth did something to him and the feeling only grew with time.

Unable to pull away, he wrapped a hand around Asher's waist and gracelessly got to his knees on the bed, pulling Asher with him and keeping him close. Boots were left on as requested.

"Sand," Asher echoed Ray's earlier concern on a rush of breath as he was forced along.

Reaching a hand up to the back of Ray's neck, Asher shifted and laid down along the length of the bed, tugging Ray down on top of him.

"Suddenly I don't care," Ray answered, too occupied with Asher to even falter for a second. Neither of them were dogs, so neither were in danger of being sold to the natives due to a grain or two of sand.

Pleased Asher had taken the initiative, Ray climbed up to straddle him, tugging the rest of Asher's shirt open roughly and pressing his chest back into the mattress. "Jesus, I have missed this," he muttered, pushing his tongue past Asher's teeth before he could reply.

It wasn't the sex he had missed. Somehow they'd found rare moments for that over the past weeks, even though it had always been quick and more like stress-relief for them both. It was this Ray had missed. Being with Asher in their own place, a private place, just for them.

Asher wasn't sure if Ray would feel the same once he was trying to clean up that sand, but he wasn't about to press the issue. Ruining the moment, that was Ray's MO, not his. And he wasn't going to start now.

Mouth fully occupied, Asher's only response came in the form of a hum in agreement. The hand at the back of the other man's neck was still firmly in place, the other falling down to his waist.

With Ray hovering over him the way he was, it didn't seem like he was in any particular rush to handcuff himself to anything, but Asher wasn't prepared to complain.

It took a while before Ray was ready to let Asher go but oxygen was an annoying necessity that couldn't be ignored forever.

He pulled back the corner of his mouth in a smile, reaching up to drag Asher's hand from his neck so he was free to move. "Still thinking about other people?" he asked, purposefully placing Asher's hand above his head on the pillow and leaving him another kiss, before shifting down his body. Fingers scrabbled with the buckle of Asher's belt, Ray's gaze flicking between its owner and the task at hand.

The pang in Asher's chest when Ray look at him made him falter for the briefest of seconds, but he recovered quickly, and seamlessly slid into taking another verbal jab at him. "Trying to, yeah. It'd be a lot easier if you were quieter."

Ray liked to think he had made getting into Asher's pants an art by now, but the unfamiliar clothes took him slightly longer than usual to conquer. Just long enough to dip his head in amusement and admit, "I can fix that."

The easiest way to get Ray to be quiet was to occupy his mouth with something else, so he took it upon himself to do just that. Wrapping a palm around Asher, he lowered his head and hollowed his cheeks, making a noise of contentment as he did so.

In that instant, it was pretty difficult to think about anything at all, let alone another person who wasn't even currently in the room with them.

He swore under his breath, past gritted teeth, risking a glance down the length of his body, before he forced himself to stare at the ceiling again. "A little warning wouldn't go amiss next time," Asher croaked. What Ray was doing right then wasn't going amiss, either, but if ever there was room to be difficult or complain then Asher was going to find it.

Ray smirked, then deliberately hummed in acknowledgement, the palm around Asher turning into two fingers as he opened his throat and took more in.

It was weird. Everything he'd learned he learned with Asher, so maybe that meant Ray never got the option of other people. He didn't want that option, of course, but even if he had it, maybe he wouldn't know what to do. This was Asher, so Ray could do it. The equation was scarily simple.

Ray sucked slower and shallower for a moment, to hold Asher back and catch his own breath. He brushed a thumb softly in short inch strokes up to Asher's navel, an action at odds with his other hand that was tight and slick and sliding smoothly up and down.

Hearing his name, Ray opened his eyes, gaze as questioning as Asher's voice. He didn't glance up though, just waited. If Asher wanted something, Ray knew he'd say.

Asher eyes slipped shut, a hand moving to Ray's shoulder and fisting the fabric of his shirt.

He repeated the name again, as if making sure he had Ray's full attention. He wasn't sure why, or how it would even be possible for anyone's attention to stray too far when they were busy doing what Ray was currently doing. His thoughts were a blur, his mind fuzzy until he spoke again. "I love you..."

After that, he was all too aware of everything. Every sound, the direction of the grain of the wood on the ceiling as his eyes shot open, Ray's movements. Or lack of them.

And there was that damn pang again. That time, though, he was sure he was having a fucking heart attack.

Ray knew stopping wasn't what Asher wanted but he couldn't help it. His stomach had leapt into his throat as soon as he'd processed the words and he lifted his head a little way, eyes blinking at Asher.

His mind didn't want to believe what his ears did, in case he was wrong, in case he'd imagined it, only heard what he wanted to hear.

Ray's behavior made it clear that it was too much to hope that he hadn't heard, and Asher couldn't be bothered to even attempt playing it off like he'd said anything other than what was said.

The ceiling continued to hold Asher's attention, the hand on Ray's shoulder falling away, down onto the mattress.

He let the silence stretch on for a moment, breaking it only due to the fact that he was growing dangerously close to idly twiddling his thumbs. "No one likes awkward silences, Vecchio. If you're not going to say anything, at least have the decency to finish what you started."

All the times Ray had imagined that moment it had been him spilling his guts first and Asher looking thoroughly unimpressed. It was a little pessimistic, which wasn't his usual take when it came to love, but this was Asher, the personification of a closed book.

When Asher's hand fell away though, Ray's eyes went straight to it, like it was a sign he was missing the boat. So when he shot up, his tone was hurried, and Asher's hand was grasped in his and pulled up with him.

"Who's silent? Not me." Hadn't Asher wanted him to be quieter? "You love me?" Ray's mind was racing and he was more breathless now than he had been thirty seconds ago. "You love me," he echoed, realisation in his voice.

Asher shrugged, tempted to pull his hand back again, just in case Ray decided to do something dumber than his usual dumb and propose marriage or something. There no was no blowjob on the planet that good.

"Can we give the fucking parrot to the natives, too? I know what I said." He did still seem more than a little perturbed - mostly at himself - for having said it, but he also still wasn't trying to take it back.

Perturbed Asher wasn't actually as amusing as Ray's expression suggested it was, but he was nervous and couldn't help it.

As if it was the most perfectly logical answer to Asher's question, he let out on a rush of air, "I love you too." He wanted to kiss Asher then, but he couldn't pull his gaze away from the other man's face.

The small sigh of relief that escaped him was almost as unexpected as the three words earlier had been. He couldn't really imagine anything worse than not only letting that slip, but not hearing it back and pretty much being left with his balls showing. Metaphorically speaking.

"Okay...," he said, trying to keep his eyes from darting around the room for good spot in the distance to star at now that he was bored of the ceiling.

"Really?" Funny how Ray felt the complete opposite. Not being an inexperienced, chastity-belt-wearing prude made it a lot less weird for him this time. The kisses he was pressing to the side of Asher's neck was testament to that.
