[For Stephen] Fangs make the man (Part Two)
[Dated to July 14]

Three days and they were still there. They didn’t feel as foreign as they had when he’d first woken up with them; he’d stopped accidentally clamping down on his bottom lip and tongue, forgetting they were there. They almost felt as normal as ever; natural. Right.

Asher decided it was probably best not to think about how right, though. They were just teeth. Everything that had come with them before didn’t seem to affect him now. No allergic reaction to the sun, no superhuman senses, he’d even checked out as ‘normal’ according to the whitecoats at the clinic: normal temperature, normal pulse, all vitals were decidedly human.

Everything else was just in his head... but he was still afraid of snapping, genuinely worried that he'd cross paths with the wrong person who'd say or do something and flip some switch, setting him off. He didn't want to kill anyone, at least he didn't think he did. Maybe a maiming at the most... Or maybe he just didn't want to deal with the consequences of killing someone. There really wasn't much in the way of consequences back home.

This wasn't home, though.

He'd avoided staying in the Compound for too long for the past few days, but he'd begun to miss his bed. He might have even missed waking up with Chloe's nose in his ear, not that he'd admit it.

After showering and braving the clothing box (which seemed to have taken pity on him today), Asher made his way to the dorm room, buttoning up his shirt then sitting down heavily on his bed. Ruffling his damp hair, he flopped back on the mattress, then grabbed a pillow, placing it over his face.

"Why what?" Asher asked, pretending to be completely oblivious. Answering a question with another question was better than thinking up a proper answer for it.

His lips worked over Stephen's jaw, teeth deliberately brushing skin every now and again before he trailed down his neck.

Okay, this was just wrong on so many levels; there were fangs involved and who knew what Asher was planning but it just - it felt really good. And Stephen knew he would regret whatever the hell was going on, cause it could be sex or it could be death, but. But.

Instead of answering with words, a little whimper escaped. Maybe there was such a thing as a vampire's thrall. That could be blamed.

"Still want to know how they felt?" His voice was a low whisper and he pressed his tongue to the base of Stephen's neck, licking a long path against the side of his throat. But he didn't want him to answer that. Answering meant thinking, thinking meant realization, reconsideration. It was just bad all around.

Lips lingering against the pulse point, Asher did his best to run with that mentality himself - no thinking, no realization, no reconsideration. Then, it was just a blur.

Head rearing back, fangs bared, the sensation of taunt skin snapping beneath them, the sudden rush of warmth filling his mouth and running down the back of his throat. He succeeded in fighting back most of the realization, but not all.

It tasted wrong.

Stephen couldn't actually remember saying anything about wanting to know how they felt, but it's not like he could have spoken. First because it felt good, almost relaxing in a way that wasn't at all relaxing to certain areas.

Then there was the first spark of pain, ahead of Stephen's brain because it took a moment for him to realize what was going on even though he had just been fearing this exact thing. It was manageable at first, sort of adding to the hazy, heady kind of arousal but it escalated, got worse. A lot worse.

Because Stephen was not exactly a fan of pain. One only needed to watch the shows when he still had the cast on his broken wrist to find that out. He swore a blue streak when he stubbed a toe.

So this? This was worse. This hurt; the stabbing, the pulling sensation, the thought that Stephen was probably totally about to die. Yeah, that one hurt the most.

The sharp metallic taste just got stronger; it was nothing at like the stuff he'd had back home. It wasn't sweet, he didn't feel like any Thirst was being quenched the more he drank. All he felt was a bit sick to the stomach. Turned on, yeah, but ill at the same time.

Withdrawing his fangs, Asher shuddered deeply, biting back the faint pang of a gag reflex as his body made it's disapproval known. "Fuck," he croaked, panting as he leaned forward, elbows rested on his knees as he fisted his hair.

Oh, God, he was going to be fucking sick.

Instincts finally moving a little quicker than snail-pace, Stephen slapped his hand over his neck the way one does when there's a mosquito. That didn't really make the pain go away. He brought his hand around, stared in a daze. There was blood on his palm and his neck stung and he was lightheaded.

Not really focusing on anything Asher was doing, Stephen still felt that the spoken sentiment should be emphasized. "Fuck," he echoed, short on air.

"Don't stand," Asher instructed, still looking down at the floor. It wasn't generally the first thing he said to someone after biting them, but unless Stephen wanted that lightheaded feeling to turn into a full on blacking out, he'd stay put. Not that the guy had any reason to listen, he just bit him for fuck's sake.

Moving a hand down from his hair, Asher brushed his fingers against the corner of his mouth, pulling back and staring at the blood left on them. It looked normal enough.

Stephen didn't think he'd be able to stand if he tried, anyway. There was a part of him that wanted to, though, to stand and run as far away from Asher as he could get, because what the fuck? He was pretty certain that he hadn't asked in any way to be bitten.

But for some reason, he wasn't exactly scared. He was in shock, sure. A little pissed off, of course. Maybe it was the way Asher looked like he was about to hurl, but Stephen didn't really think his life was in danger at the moment.

Other than the loss of blood.

"Good...idea," he managed to say, wincing from pain.

Asher did stand; it's not like he'd lost any blood, after all. He actually had more of it in his system than his stomach could handle, the bitter, coppery taste still strong in his mouth. He left the room without a word. In his head, though, he'd told Stephen to stay, the word just never made it past his lips. He ended up wagging a finger at him as if he were a dog, then walked out.

He was back a few minutes later, fingers and mouth clear of any traces of blood now, holding a damp washcloth in hand. Placing it against Stephen's neck, Asher then grabbed his hand, placing it up against the cloth so he can hold it in place himself.

That done, he moved to the opposite side of the room, collapsing down onto the furthest bed from his. That bed belonged to Joey now, but at one point, it had been Odd's. The thought alone was enough to jolt him straight off the mattress, and he settled for a spot on the floor instead.

Had Stephen been feeling a little stronger, he would have been extremely put out by Asher up and leaving. Before he could react in any way, though, Asher was back and there was coolness on Stephen's neck.

"I didn't think you were going to bite me," he said, almost conversationally, a bit later, after much of the bleeding had slowed. It still hurt, and he'd probably need another washcloth, but he figured he'd be okay. Except for the melodramatic part of him that was screaming for him to run away before he was murdered.

"Vampire," Asher answered simply. Though that wasn't strictly the truth of the matter. He had fangs, sure, but if he walked outside just then, he wouldn't go up in flames. That in mind, he wasn't sure what all of that made him now. Other than confused and slightly unhinged, that is.

"Not much thinking involved, just... old instinct. Felt like the thing to do."
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 9th, 2008 10:04 pm (UTC)
Well, that sure made it all better, didn't it? He hadn't really thought much about it since Asher was clearly not back to the way he used to be. Of course, apparently that could have been why Asher looked so sick afterwards...

"And it wasn't?" Duh. Stephen gingerly touched the marks - holes, really - on his neck. "So that's how it works."
asher_talos: I can do bashful[personal profile] asher_talos on July 10th, 2008 12:20 am (UTC)
"I've never wanted to upchuck after biting anyone before, so I'm gonna with no." Which was sort of a lie. His first solo kill probably went down just as smoothly. Not that he'd bitten Stephen with the intent to kill him. "But that's the gist of it, I guess." Minus everything that happened once he pulled away.

He definitely never stop to chat when he was done.
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 10th, 2008 01:08 am (UTC)
Well, that cleared that up, at least. Part of him wondered how bad the experience would be without the loss of blood, and the rest of him tried to kick that part into concussion. Because that line of thought was just wrong.

"So I guess you have no idea how long this will take to stop hurting?" Stephen only grumbled a little. At least since there was no television for him to be on, there'd be no need for weird cover-up measures.
asher_talos: Standoffish[personal profile] asher_talos on July 10th, 2008 01:43 am (UTC)
Knowing you...?

"Not really, no," he said. He'd been bitten more than once, but Asher had a relatively high tolerance for physical pain when compared to most. He doubted Stephen could say the same.
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 10th, 2008 01:52 am (UTC)
"Will it look like this forever?" he said, waving his still-bloody hand towards his neck vaguely. He didn't even know what it looked like.
asher_talos: Dead in your tracks[personal profile] asher_talos on July 10th, 2008 01:59 am (UTC)
"I don't know... Never monitored anyone after biting." There was no real opportunity to. Not when they either ended up dead, or turning vampire themselves, healing the scar over in a matter of a few days.
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 10th, 2008 02:05 am (UTC)
Huh. So...no one else in the world had ever had this happen.

"So I'm special," Stephen said, half-joking. Because oddly, it did make him feel a little better about the whole thing.

He figured he should really find something to wrap over the marks or something, though. Dammit, he missed his doctors.
asher_talos: Straddle the line.[personal profile] asher_talos on July 10th, 2008 02:18 am (UTC)
"Uh..." Actually, it had less to do with Stephen being special, and more to do with Asher being defective, thanks to the Island. But whatever. "Something like that, I guess."
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 10th, 2008 02:23 am (UTC)
Stephen yawned and then whimpered in pain.

"I think I'll just go...find some drugs. Tylenol or something," he added, as if Asher was totally thinking he meant speed or something stupid like that.
asher_talos: Acute[personal profile] asher_talos on July 10th, 2008 03:11 am (UTC)
Asher simply nodded slowly, leaning back against the bed. He'd only half heard what Stephen had said, but nodding seemed like a good enough response as any.
[identity profile] colbert-bump.livejournal.com on July 10th, 2008 03:17 am (UTC)
Stephen nodded back, which was again, a stupid thing to do. Because of the pain. Grumbling to himself, the now stiff washcloth still pressed against his wound, he stumbled to the stairs.
